About this ebook

An epic of the frontier, Lonesome Dove is the grandest novel ever written about the last defiant wilderness.

“My favorite book: there are so many that I would be afraid to say. Probably if I had to pick anything I’d say Lonesome Dove by Larry McMurtry.” —Stephen King

“If I had to recommend one Great American Novel, Larry McMurtry’s Lonesome Dove would be high on my list. It’s got everything I love as a reader: unforgettable characters, a huge sense of adventure, humor, heartbreak, and a story that never lets go of you.” —James Patterson

Journey to the dusty little town of Lonesome Dove, where retired Texas Rangers Augustus McCrae and Woodrow Call undertake a perilous cattle drive to the untamed plains of Montana. Along the way, they face danger, adventure, and an unforgettable cast of characters. Richly authentic and beautifully written, Lonesome Dove is a story of love, loss, and the unyielding spirit of the American West.

Ok, so I finally finished this book after starting it last December and... It was a doorstopper! It was dense with descriptions. The characters were amazing and you will fall in love with all of them. I absolutely adored Clara. She was my favorite character in all the book. Her straightforward nature was so welcoming when the story revolved around a bunch of scared, timid and egotistical men. Call the stoic stubborn one. Gus the fun and sarcastic peotector. Lorena was a stubborn moron. Jake a useless sloth. July a timid man-child. Elmira the devil. And Newt the innocent "Lonesome Dove". The characters made the book, they truly did. It was a beautiful story, but with some drawbacks. Most believe it's a perfect book, I'm not one. The length it takes to reach the end of some chapters are insanity inducing. The heavy descriptions of the prairie and tracking was brain melting. And the ending was like slamming into a wall... Abrupt. Justice for Roscoe and Janey✊🏻! 4.25/5.

very much obliged, this was a hard felt read, I was swept away on an adventure that truly felt like a fantastic ride. The audiobook, by the way, takes this experience to an entirely new level. Prepare to become utterly immersed in the lives of Woodrow Call, Augustus McCrae, and the rest of the Hat Creek Outfit. It's a long read, but you'll be wishing it were even longer. McMurtry masterfully pulls you into their arduous cattle drive across the Great Plains and deep into the tundra. With every mile, you'll wonder if courage, good luck, and sheer fortune will be enough to see them through to their final destination. Despite the hardships and heartaches they endure, you'll be profoundly thankful to have ridden every challenging mile with them. This isn't just a book; it's an unforgettable journey you'll carry with you long after the final page.

If you're only going to read 2 books in your lifetime, you better read your Bible from cover to cover. As soon as you're done with Revelations, don't pause - have Lonesome Dove ready to go in your other hand...
